National Park posters

In this lesson students are introduced to the grid method in recreating National Park Posters. Students are challenged to measure out borders for presentation, along with their grids. Students demonstrate accurate proportions utilizing this new method. This lesson is also excellent for introducing students to color mixing and matching with its ability to impress students with their own capabilities.

In this lesson students will choose a reference photo of a person, place, or pet to demonstrate their understanding of the grid method. Students will practice drawing and shading with accuracy to recreate their reference image. This lesson is great in introducing students to the grid method, while incorporating choice and personal interest.

In this lesson students are inspired by Native Fish of the Grand River in the creation of a ceramic fish. Students add actual texture to their slab fish and practice glazing to match their reference photo. This lesson is a great way to introduce ceramics to middle school students.

Geology Stop-motion

In this cross-curriculum lesson students explore digital media in creating a stop-motion video. Students are posed with the challenge of designing a project that creates visual understanding of a science topic chosen by their geology teacher. This group project encourages students to practice collaboration with their peers and enforces students to exercise communication between multiple teachers.

In this lesson students practice creating cross contour lines to design a disco ball. Students exercise color mixing to match provided color palettes to create tints and shades. This lesson allows students to have autonomy in their individual learning, by meeting students where they are at skillswise with providing a variety of disco balls to choose from for their reference photo.

Disco FEVEr

In this lesson students will learn how to mix a color wheel using primary colors in the form of acrylic paint. Students will learn the techniques and cleaning procedures of acrylic paint. Students will discuss the relationships between colors.
